Hurricane Irma - CBF Disaster Response 2017

    CARIBBEAN BAPTIST FELLOWSHIP

    HURRICANE IRMA

    DISASTER RELIEF

The Caribbean Baptist Fellowship shall organize disaster assistance for four countries affected by Hurricane Irma. These countries are:

    1.      St. Martin

    2.      Barbuda

    3.      Turks and Caicos Islands

    4.      The Bahamas

These four Caribbean countries have been chosen by the CBF not only because of the devastation caused by the hurricane but also because there are member bodies associated with these countries through which relief supplies can be channeled. In the case of St. Martin, the CBF will work through Guadeloupe Baptist Federation; Barbuda through the Antigua Baptist Association and Turks, Caicos Islands through the Turks and Caicos Baptist Union and the Bahamas through the Bahamas Baptist Missionary and Educational Convention.

    Initial Assessment

The initial assessment received from our partners in these four countries highlights unimaginable devastation particularly in Barbuda, St. Martin and Ragged Island (Bahamas) . There is large scale destruction of properties, road networks, utilities, livestock and agricultural produce among other things. As a result, water supply has been compromised, basic food items in short supply, citizens dislocated, and daily life disrupted. The people in these countries plus the others are experiencing severe hardship as they come to grips with their sudden reversals.

Efforts are being made by some of our partners as well as the CBF team to do a more comprehensive assessment of the devastation. The CBF and some partners have been flying to the affected countries to conduct the assessment. However, this will certainly take some time to complete due to various mitigating factors. What is sure at this stage is that, there is need for immediate relief response while a more detailed and comprehensive assessment is being done for medium and long term response.

The CBF is therefore proposing to assist in providing:

    1.      Basic food items         -    US $ 40,000.00    ($ 10,000.00 for each country)

    2.      Water                          -     US $ 20,000.00    ($ 5,000.00 for each country)

    3.      Mattresses                   -    US $ 20,000.00    ($ 5000.00 for each country)

    4.      Candles and Lanterns -     US $ 8000.00      ($ 2000.00 for each country)

    5.      Roofing materials       -     US 40,000.00      ($ 10,000.00 for each country)

    6.      Miscellaneous            -      US 20,000.00      ( $ 5000.00 for each country)

The Caribbean Baptist Fellowship has established an Irma Relief Fund to raise this money to enable the realization of our objectives. The information for wiring funds to the account established is stated below:
